Showcase Q & A

Important Announcement

The STEM for All Video Showcase is now at the end of its funding cycle. We are grateful to NSF for funding this effort from 2015 - 2023. We have now converted this Video Showcase to a static site in order to ensure that you will have continued access to all videos. You can still search the videos by presenter name, use multiple filters to find those that are of interest to you, and read the discussions that took place.

Please note that some of the information below may no longer apply, as the event is now closed. Videos from all Video Showcases (2015 - 2022) are accessible on the STEM for All Multiplex.

How can I be a presenter in a STEM for All Video Showcase event?

Projects that address STEM and CS learning and receive federal funding from NSF and other federal agencies (e.g. ED, NASA, USAID, NIH, IMLS, USDA, etc.) can participate by presenting a (< 3 min) video about their projects work. In order to participate:

  • registration is mandatory and the lead presenter from your project must register between January 15 - February 19.
  • all videos must be submitted between March 1 and April 23.
  • presenters must participate during the online interactive event, May 13 - 20.

Learn more about the requirements and deadlines on the Important Information for Presenters page. If you have missed the deadlines for this year's event, please consider participating in the next Video Showcase to be held in May 2020.

Why have participants found this event to be valuable?

Participants enjoy participating as they report, learning about the work in the field, making new contacts and collaborations, receiving new ideas and resources that will improve their work, and reaching new audiences interested in prospective resources. Additionally, projects have found this to be an excellent way to disseminate their efforts to a large public audience. Read more about participants' experiences on our 2018 Testimonials page.

During the event, how can visitors participate in the online showcase?

We encourage all visitors of the video showcase to watch videos and post questions and provide feedback to presenters during the week of May 13 - 20. Visitors are also encouraged to vote for their favorite videos to determine those recognized as Public Choice. It's free to watch, discuss, and vote for videos.

How are videos recognized in this event?

All of the presentations show interesting, cutting-edge work. Additionally, this event has three ways to recognize video presentations (during the week long online event May 13 - 20):

  • Facilitators' Choice: Facilitators, representing well known researchers, practitioners, and policy makers, seed discussions and set a positive tone for constructive, collegial discourse. Facilitators also rate the videos using an online rubric and recognize approximately 15 videos with the Facilitators' Choice award.
  • Presenters' Choice: Presenters and Co-Presenters vote for the four videos that they feel are most creative in using video to showcase innovative work. Those videos that receive the most votes are recognized with the Presenters' Choice award.
  • Public Choice: All visitors can vote for videos that they feel are most exemplary by using the 'Vote for Public Choice' button that can be found on each video presentation page. Clicking this button enables you to vote through Facebook, Twitter, or by online email ballot. The video presentations with the most votes are recognized with the Public Choice award.

Recognized videos will be announced online on Tuesday, May 20, 2019 and will be tagged with icons showing Public Choice, Presenter Choice, and Facilitator Choice recognition. They will be recognized by NSF and the resource centers as well. View the recognized videos from the 2018 STEM for All Video Showcase.

Is closed captioning available for the videos?

Yes, the TERC organizers of this event provide closed captioning for all videos. Click the cc button in the bottom right (of each video) to turn them on/off, as necessary.

Who funds the video showcase?

The effort is led by TERC and is a collaborative effort with the following NSF-funded resource-centers: MSPnet, CADRE, CIRCL, CAISE, STELAR, and CS for All Teachers.
